You say you are thinking of moving overseas. Fine, but it is not quite that simple. You cannot just move to Australia, immigration is strictly controlled and they work a points system. Points are awarded on a number of headings and to get a permanent entry visa to have to obtain the points level in place at the time (changes according to their needs). I don't know how NZ works but i believe it is reputed to be one of the hardest countries to emigrate to. certainly the Australian economy is pretty shaky at the moment (i have 4 siblings living there), the economic down turn is not just in Europe.

I answered this in the Australian section, but basically, a painter and decorator actually has a better chance of getting a visa than a hairdresser, so that's what you should be doing.

Try this site, they give a lot of good information re. what sort of people Australia give work permits etc to.

Once you have gained the work permit, the rest is relatively simple, its mainly finding a job, house etc.

If you emmigrate under their skilled migrant programme you are granted instant, permanant residency.

Look at the link for further info

You need to apply at the Australian Embassy. You need to have very good long term health prospects. You need to have a sponsor or be a wanted trades person with checkable papers. You need to have sufficient income to cover initial costs.

Hey there

We have a lot of interest in overseas Nurses here in Melbourne. They seem to go to The Northern Hospital in the suburb of Epping or The Austin Hospital in the suburb of Heidelberg.

I know these hospitals very well as I spent lots of time there when my parents were terminal.

I will attach a link for you and hope that this proves to be of some benefit.

Love and joy

Beth

you should look at nursing jobs in regional Australia, rather than within the big cities like Sydney, Melbourne and Adelide....

why not try Far North Queensland, the Top End or somewhere in Western Australia...

i know that there is a nurse shortage in Australia so I think that if you apply for a skilled working visa you should get it with no problem. i know that lots of hospitals recruit nurses from overseas because there are not enough in Australia at the moment, something about a lack of places at universities to train them...

You should look at outback australia being the Northern Territory and Western Australia. The variety of nursing oportunities and work roles makes it very interesting and challenging. Nurses are really given the oportunity to participate in different roles that in the larger hospitals restrict you.

The Prince of Wales Hospital in Randwick has a big ex-pat community. It's in a suburb of Sydney, very near the beach and is a nice area to live. You are maybe 20 minutes from the city centre, and near shops, restaurants, bars, a cinema and a racecourse among other things.

The on-site nursing quarters are a bit grotty but super cheap (like £20 per week) so you can live in while you find an apartment, of which there are lots locally.
